Shoot Whatever You Like However You Like It

The beauty of photography is that it lets you explore and create whatever images you like.

So this weekend I wanted to shoot the Singapore public buses at night. But I didn’t want it to be static. I wanted to create the sense of movement in the image, but I didn’t want to do panning. I have done panning photography a lot before. I wanted something different, so I experimented on the spot by zooming in and out while exposing. The streets in Geylang Serai during the month of Ramadan are illuminated with colourful lights and these create beautiful light trails when you zoom the lens in or out while exposing. The ISO was set at the lowest (it was 200), small aperture of either f/16 or smaller and an exposure time of between 3 – 4 seconds. And for the rest of the night … I just had fun standing on the roadside photographing the incoming buses.

I love the colourful chaotic images that I got. I got all the elements I wanted, i.e. the sense of movement, the colours and the Singapore public buses. And I think I got a bonus of abstract photography images too as the result. And most importantly, I had fun doing it.

All images shot on Fuji X-T2 and Fujinon XF 55-200mm lens. Enjoy the images.
