What To Shoot In Singapore – Kampong Glam

As mentioned in my previous post, I took my Panasonic GF1 and Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 for a walk in Kampong Glam. Actually I spent most of the time only along the Haji Lane, so this set of photos only covers a small portion of what you can shoot in Kampong Glam.

The Nokton is an M-mount lens, so I used an adapter which I got from Chiif Camera. I enjoyed the slower process in creating the photos as the lens is a manual focus lens and as I said in my previous post, without a viewfinder, it’s not easy to focus manually while stretching out your arms in order to give your eyes the minimum focusing distance to see the LCD clearly.

Haji Lane is a narrow lane with many shophouses in the neighborhood of Kampong Glam. It has gained popularity because of the independent fashion boutiques and middle eastern cafes and restaurants you can find along it. If you are tired of cold shopping malls, you should check out this place. But, this blog entry is not about what you can buy in Kampong Glam, especially along the Haji Lane, but what details you can shoot. Like I said above, these photos only cover a small portion of Kampong Glam, so when you have more time, walk around and enjoy.

For those visiting Singapore, if you are taking the train, alight at Bugis MRT Station and take the exit to Raffles Hospital. It will then be a quick 5 minute walk to Haji Lane. See the map here. Otherwise, a comfortable taxi ride will take you there easily. Have fun.

The first three photos below were from my previous trip and were shot using my Canon 1D IV and 85mm f/1.2LĀ  lens.

I love the quote on the glass of this small cafe, “There are only 52 Saturday nites a year. Celebrate food and family every day.”

  1. Thanks for the postings, it gives me some inspirations .. I have been wanting to do a “special project” to take pictures of a small suburb close to my house, very unique small suburb. But I am “stuck” .. winter hibernation … really need to pick up my camera and go out there šŸ™‚
