I shot my own reflection on the rear glass window of a tricycle when I was walking around the Shivaji Nagar market in Bangalore, India. I shot it using Leica M9 and Zeiss Planar 50mm f/2.
By the way, after using the Leica M9 for few weeks, let me share what I think about the camera. I won’t talk about the technicalities of the camera or the lenses, just some practical observation. I may write more later as I use the camera more often.
- you will like it if you enjoy the process of creating an image. You will not like it if you need a quick and auto focus system.
- it’s slow because of the manual focusing, but I am sure this will get better as I practice more. It’s a bit challenging for me now because of my ‘faulty’ eyes. I need glasses soon.
- it’s small, light and powerful at the same time. Lugging it around your neck for a whole day is not a problem. Perfect for street photography and travel.
- excellent options of lenses from ten of thousands to few hundreds. No, I don’t have the expensive one. The one I used above was a second-hand Zeiss Planar 50mm f/2.
- it really brings me back to ‘focus and recompose’ technique that I learned when I first learned photography almost ten years ago. No such thing as choosing a focusing point.
- need to get used more to the frame-lines. I sometimes forget and compose using the entire view finder.
- its classic look can kill. 🙂

Point no.1 and 2, how about if you turn your digital camera & lens into manual? I reckon the result should be the same.

It’s a fast age now and we overlook the time to focus, to get the right shot and the development time. We now have fast auto focus, burst mode and faster post processing.
One problem with DSLRs is the care you need to take while carrying them around, the weight and the range of lenses, though the picture quality is unmatched.
