Today’s Google Doodle Celebrates Cinematographer James Wong Howe

Today’s Google doodle has something related to what I love doing. It celebrates the life of James Wong Howe (1899-1976), an American cinematographer who came to America from China when he was just five years old. Today marks his 118th birthday.

You can read more about him on Wikipedia and on Google page itself.

Though mostly known for his works on cinematography, he was also an active photographer during his era. Some of his photographs of San Francisco’s Chinatown can be seen on the Online Archive of California website. I love looking at old photographs. This interest has motivated me to work on my personal project that I call “Images of Singapore” and other documentary work within my own family. I just love photography.
